Devlog #1: 04/23/22


Hey all!! This is my first time doing any sort of official update outside of posting oh woe is me posts about my progress on twitter lmao so I guess I'll just get right into it!

Here's what's already done (or mostly done for now):

  1.  all the backgrounds have been made and finished (all the bgs for part one, at least)
  2. base sprites are complete, all the characters are present in the game and have some basic expressions/blink animations done
  3. the menu screens are all pretty much done

And here is what I am working on as of now:

  1. finishing the script (why is this not already done T__T); I just finished writing the last scene for part one so now all I need to do is go through and code in all the sprite expressions and test those
  2. finish drawing the sprite expressions LMAO I keep finding that I need different ones as I'm going through the code, like "oh it would be nice to have the Oracle make this face here" but it's not one of the basic emotions I've already done so I now have a list of extra faces to do for all the characters haha rip me
  3. FINISH THE CGS orz these feel like they will never be done. I've finished ONE out of SEVEN someone send help
  4. Finish up the code for the gallery screen, which I'm in no rush to do since I don't even have the cgs that will show up in this lol
  5. Also been toying with the idea of getting a jump start on building the relationships with the boys and coding in plus or minus points based on the choices you make while talking to them in part one?? I'm not sure if I wanna do that or not though. It'd be a quick thing to add in, I think, and would add a little boost to the start of your relationship when you start their route in part two, but I'm just not sure if I want that or to just leave part one as a "here are choices to get a feel for how things will be but they have no impact on things in the long run".

So there's been progress but it's very slow. I'm hoping that things will start rolling along more soon, but I also got a bit sick recently so I haven't felt up for sitting down and cracking these things out =___=;;

Anyway, since this is the end of the first log, I figure I'll do a very brief get to know the dev thing here for anyone reading who is interested:

I'm Kai, a solo dev, and I started working on this sometime last year, I think?? But it's not my first go at doing a visual novel. I had started another one but ran into a wall with the story so I decided to take ACDF, a preexisting story I had intended to do an actual novel about, and turn it into a VN. It sounded like it would be pretty simple to shift things from novel to visual novel but it's actually been a longer process than I had initially thought. I'm still coming to terms with the idea of essentially writing the same story four different times for each route lmao

I was really stoked to see how quickly I got a response on here after posting this page up. It was a really nice boost to my motivation to get this thing done a little quicker, so hopefully more people continue to stumble across it and adding it to collections and stuff ^^ For those of you keeping track too, you can come cry with me on twitter if you want to, but if not, then look forward to more updates here as I get things done on this!
