Devlog #8: 02/24 - Project Status
Hello hello, it has been quite a long time since I posted an update specifically for Demon's Fate. Like way too long it feels like. I wish I could say this was going to be a nice update with news about part two being almost done but unfortunately that's not the case.
Despite having things loosely plotted out for the entirety of the game, I seem to have run into a very very high wall in terms of writing inspiration/motivation. I'm not happy with how the story is playing out or with how I planned things in the beginning stages. I was very ambitious, thinking that it wouldn't be that hard to write 4 separate versions of the story & have all these fun bells and whistles on top of that. Turns out I don't have the mental capacity to take on a project of that size yet, so while I don't plan on giving up on this one, I will most likely be starting from step one again in order to get this to be something more doable for me.
If I can manage to work the plot out in the way I'm imagining it now, it could be a good test run for how I want to have Noctilim set up as well so that would be nice.
I did learn quite a bit working on Wolf Like Me. Doing the script for that really opened up a new channel in my head in terms of thinking about how to script a visual novel, so I'm hoping that I can take what I learned from that and apply it here to hopefully streamline things and make the actual writing less of a chore for myself to get through.
I also did undertake the task of redoing some of the art for this as I was no longer happy with those either. I've gotten most of the sprites finished and I'm much happier with them now. And the new setup for how I have them broken up will make doing more expressions a lot easier as well.
So that's where I'm at currently. I will keep the current demo up as that for now, a demo people can play to get an idea of the game since the base plot won't be changing. I'm just going to go at it differently. Wish me luck because I'd really like to get this one finished for all of you and also for myself so I can FINALLY have a complete story for these characters lol
Anyway that's all I wanted to say. I will leave you with this picture of the sprite comparisons! Before on the left & after on the right ^^

Do it for yourself, not for us
That's true! I try not to get too hung up on whether or not other people will like it & focus on me liking it, but I do want you guys to enjoy it as well lol
Ultimately, the conceptual integrity of any project is achieved only due to ideas and inspiration of a particular person. Personally, I often do not hesitate to criticize the authors, but this is connected just that they begin to rush about, forgetting about the main goal and idea.
That makes sense. My intentions with this particular project may have gotten muddied by my ambitions so scaling it back and trying to streamline it will hopefully keep it from feeling rushed/too off the central plot. I think it's easy to want to go big with things and that makes it even easier to go off track at times.
It is even pleasant to observe such movements of the author. Ultimately, this is the right path - doubts, deviations and a return to the origins and initial inspiration. Please do not waste time on this discussion any more - go and create)
Good luck!!! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! ^-^
Thank you!!! I'm going to do my best
